Scott Pioli, the Patriots VP of Player Personnel and Belichik's right
hand man interviewed with the Cleveland Browns for their open GM
position yesterday.
It has been rumored that Pioli has been given an offer he can't refuse
from the Browns organization. Probably not the same as a Corleone
offer, but most likely will be hard to turn down. Now that probably
includes final decision on all organizational matters and a hefty
income over multiple years.
The catch is that he needs to make this decision in 24 hours, according to
ESPN.com, meaning Pioli's decision should be made by today.
The reason for the Browns putting Pioli's feet-to-the-fire is most
likely due to the Kansas City Chiefs. According to Mike Reiss of the
Boston Globe,
the Chiefs have asked and received permission to interview Pioli. This
interest from a second team no doubt, has influenced the necessity for
the Browns to request a quick response from Pioli. However, Pioli has
the upper-hand over both teams and can choose to take his time over a
decision of this magnitude.
The Chiefs are also looking at Colts assistant GM Chris Polian, Ravens
director of pro personnel George Kokinis, Ravens director of college
scouting Eric DeCosta, and former GM Phil Savage, according to
ProFootballTalk.com.
