Chiefs pass on Curry and take Jackson

With Aaron Curry staring the Chiefs and their war room directly in the eye, the Chiefs opt for the LSU defensive end Tyson Jackson.
In the last 24 hours it has been rumored that Scott Pioli and new head coach Todd Haley wanted Tyson Jackson. The question is: could the Chiefs have traded down to get Tyson Jackson later in the first round?
By all accounts, Jackson was only in the top 15 of most draft analyst's and not graded in the top 5 picks. Could the Chiefs have added another pick to drop down...maybe. Most likely a team that would have traded up with the Chiefs would have done so to pick USC QB Mark Sanchez.
There was said to be 4 teams very interested in Sanchez, the Broncos, Redskins, Jets, and Cleveland. It turned out that the Jets traded up with Cleveland to pick Sanchez at the #5 pick. It is possible that teams knew they didn't have to trade up to the Chiefs #3 pick to get Sanchez. That may have been why the Chiefs decided not to trade out of their pick and just stick with the guy they wanted all along - Jackson.
Either way, Pioli has taken a big chance by passing on Curry, who was said to be the "
surest thing in the draft" and a "
can't miss player". All I know is that Jackson better turn out because their will be millions guaranteed to the #3 overall pick in the draft (Curry ended up going #4 to Seattle). It is a big investment, and will always go down as Pioli's first pick ever as a GM and as the GM for the Chiefs.
And oh by the way, the first pick that Pioli took in his first year with the Patriots - Defensive End Richard Seymour. I don't think that turned out so bad for them.
