Coach Haley drops Bowe to the bench

Chiefs' star receiver Dwayne Bowe, in his first two seasons in the NFL has reminded me more and more of a older T.O. It's not so much the off-the-field attention-seeking behavior that draws similarities between the diva and Bowe, but its the 'dropping the football' issue for Bowe that is starting to surface when you bring up the name - Dwayne Bowe.
Don't get me wrong, Bowe is a tremendous talent and the Chiefs #1 passing target heading into 2009. Even I have Bowe as a 'keeper' in my fantasy league, that's why he's my keeper! However, fantasy Bowe owners and Chiefs' fans alike took a shot-to-the-gut yesterday when head coach Todd Haley benched Bowe by demoting him to third-string.
As of yesterday who are the Chiefs' starting WR's, according to the Kansas City Star? Terrance Copper and Devard Darling. Their backups? Amani Toomer and Mark Bradley......ouch.
Apparently, Dwayne Bowe has continued his "drops" problem during the early parts of training camp, according to
Kent Babb of the KC Star.
Haley, who was once a WR's coach and most recently the offensive coordinator for the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals, knows exactly what it takes to get receivers to become elite players in this league. He was able to get the most out of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin at the WR position. In fact, Fitgerald is now considered arguably the best WR in the NFL.
Benching Bowe, it most likely a threat than a reality, even though Haley would say otherwise. “It’s not a threat. It’s more of: We’re going to do it with guys who are going to do it our way.”, according to the
KC Star.
Regardless of where Bowe starts the season on the depth chart (please be a starter), expect him to be a better receiver for having Haley as coach.
