Larry Johnson Apologizes But Who Cares?
By: SCUBA
The aftermath of the Larry Johnson debacle has led to the Chiefs asking LJ to stay away from the team for now. There has been no suspension to this point, however the Chiefs are still investigating the matter.
In case you aren't up to date on your latest Larry Johnson idiocy here is a rundown of what LJ said via Twitter regarding coach Todd Haley:
"My father played for the coach from 'Remeber The Titans'. Our coach played golf. My father played for Redskins briefly. Our coach. Nuthn"
"My father got more credentials than most of these pro coaches. google my father!!!"
There was a comment made to LJ regarding the incident where he spit in a women's face. LJ's response:
"Make me regret it. Lmao. U don't stop my checks. Lmao. So 'tweet' away."
Not only did LJ use a gay slur in response to someone on Twitter, but he did it again to local Kansas City reporters to brush them off. "Cowboy" of the "Chris and Cowboy show" on Kansas City's 610 Sports Radio has stated on-air that he heard this slur used by LJ. The Kansas City Star also has stated that they have the recorded evidence of this gay slur used by LJ to the KC media.
LJ did issue an apology regarding this situation:
"I regret my actions. The words were used by me in frustration, and they were not appropriate," he said through a spokesman. "I did not intend to offend anyone, but that is no excuse for what I said."
As the
Associated Press suggests, this apology does sound a lot like the apology he made at about this time last year with the "spitting in the face of the woman at the bar"
incident. LJ went on to say:
"all the kids who view athletes as role models. I was not a good role model yesterday and hopefully I can become a better role model. We all make mistakes, and the challenge is to learn from them."
"I will do my best to learn from this one as I move toward becoming a better person, teammate, and member of the Kansas City Chiefs team and community."
Larry Johnson has made a lot of mistakes since being with the Chiefs. Some mistakes have come with a suspension from the NFL and some mistakes he was able to get away with.
So, far the Chiefs are just asking him to stay away from the team and all team facilities and functions until they look into the matter further.
This is a bye week for the Chiefs coming up, and if they're smart they will suspend LJ for the rest of the season and trade/cut him in the off-season.
He is a nuisance to the Chiefs, NFL, and the community. He obviously has some hatred and anger issues that he needs to work out, and I hope that he does.
However, in the meantime I will settle with LJ spending the rest of the season watching Chiefs' games from inside the house he bought with all of those "checks".
